Elvis Week 2008



August is a big month for Elvis fans in Memphis Tennessee. Every year, around the anniversary of his death, the city holds a week long celebrations, honoring the music and life of the king. Tourists from all over the world come to Memphis, TN to absorb the environment that was the influence for an Idol which created an unforgettable mark in the music world. Elvis Presley, the king of music is still alive in the heart and soul of millions of fans.

This year, Elvis week takes place from August 9-17 and includes music, movies, live performances, special guest and more. People who were part of the king's life and career will hold a special insider's conference and a special Elvis expo will also take place. Live concerts will take place on big outdoors screens under the stars. It is the ultimate tribute to a star who still maintains a successful career.

Here are a few fun and weird facts about Elvis:

  • 1) Elvis recorded over 600 songs during his career but didn't write a single one of them.
  • 2) He was blond until his late teens.
  • 3) He had a black belt in Karate.
  • 4) For two years Elvis diet included nothing but meatloaf, tomatoes and mashed potatoes.
  • 5) His favorite toothpaste was Colgate.
  • 6) Elvis used to wear a cross, Star of David and the Hebrew letters "Chai" because he didn't want to miss out oo Heaven.
  • 7) His shoe size was 11D.
