New stamp issues for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

Beijing was voted to be the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games. To mark the occasion China issued several stamps. In 2005, China issued a set of stamps featuring the emblem and mascots of the games. Also, on August 7, the Beijing postal office released a series of stamps marking the impressive opening ceremony of the Olympic Games depicting images of the architectural wonder the "birds' nest" and the "water cube". These stamps were offered for sale online and were all sold out within two hours.
Nigeria launched a set of commemorative stamps celebrating the opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The stamps depict three events in which Nigeria will be competing for medal in the games: football, athletics and wrestling
"Australian swimming gold medalist Stephanie Rice has stamped her mark on the Beijing Olympics and will now her mark on a stamp in her home country" Rice will be the first Australian gold medalist from Beijing to appear on a postage stamp. Australia post will release a stamp for every Australian gold medalist from the 2008 games following the tradition from Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
The set of stamps "Beijing 2008 Olympic Equestrian events" and associated stamp products were released on August 9th to celebrate the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Hong Kong's very special honor of co-hosting the equestrian events, which mark this milestone in the sports achievements of the city. The stamps and the associated stamp products are Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Licensed Products with the imprint of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games. Also, Hong Kong issued stamps to remark Beijing Olympic torch relay.
The UN postal administration (UNPA) Issued six commemorative stamps to coincide with the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. World-renowned South American artist Romero Britto has been commissioned by the UNPA to create half-dozen original pieces of art reflecting the theme "Sport for Peace." Britto uses vibrant colours and bold patterns to convey a message of hope.
The Cayman Islands post office will honor the four athletes representing the Island in the 2008 Olympic Games, depicting them in the four events they will take place in: 2 in swimming, running and hurdling. "Our athletes deserve the backing of the nation and having a set of stamps is certainly fitting to the occasion," said Carson K. Ebanks Secretary General of the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee.
The BVI postal administration launched its Beijing 2008 stamp issue presenting a 2008 Olympic hopeful and two past Olympians. the Two stamps present the image of 2008 IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championship bronze medalist Ms. Tahesia Harrigan, who is one of two athletes bearing the Territory's hope for medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She will participate in the 100-metre event on August 16th & 17th.
Many more countries will honor their winners by issuing their postage stamps.
